World Medical Association Chairman re-elected for second term


Dr. Frank Ulrich Montgomery has been re-elected Chairman of the WMA Council for a second two-year term.

Dr. Montgomery, a radiologist from Hamburg, and former President of the German Medical Association, was re-elected unopposed at this week’s online WMA Council meeting.

Dr. Kenji Matsubara (Japan) was re-elected as Vice Chair of Council and Dr. Ravindra Sitaram Wankhedkar (India) was re-elected as Treasurer.
Dr. Marit Hermansen, President of the Norweigan Medical Association, was elected as the new Chair of the  Medical Ethics Committee, Dr. Jung Yul Park (Korea) was re-elected Chair of the Finance and Planning Committee and Dr. Osahon Enabulele (Nigeria) was re-elected Chair of the Socio-Medical Affairs Committee.

Among the items under discussion at the meeting, which ends tomorrow (Friday), are how to improve the availability of medicines and vaccines, pandemic preparedness, the risks and benefits of digital health, gender bias in health care and the growth of medical liability litigation.
