WMA Annual General Assembly 2017 – Chicago


The annual General Assembly of the World Medical Association will be held at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel from October 11 to 14.

The programme of the meeting will be:

Wednesday 11 October: Committees

Thursday 12 October:    Scientific Session

Friday 13 October am:    Council meeting

                                     Assembly Ceremonial Session

Saturday 14 October:     General Assembly

The theme of the Scientific Session on Thursday is “Assuring Quality in Undergraduate Medical Education”.

Journalists are invited to attend the Scientific Session and the Ceremonial Session on Friday morning, when Dr. Yoshitake Yokokura, President of the Japan Medical Association, will be installed as President of the WMA for 2017/18.

The media is also invited to attend the Assembly debates on Saturday, when the keynote speaker in the morning will be Dr. Anthony Fauci, American immunologist and head of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Among the issues on the agenda at the meeting are:

Proposals for a revised oath for physicians

The medical use of cannabis

Revised advice to physicians on the forced feeding of hunger strikers

The issue of bullying and harassment in the medical profession

Measures to improve in-flight medical care
