Item 22 – Climate change and health
Honourable chairperson, distinguished delegates,
We welcome the WHO report inviting the health community to address the climate crisis, and strongly
support developing a resolution. For true effectiveness, Member States must aim for an intersectoral
approach, ensuring health inclusion in all policies, and integrating climate change education into the
curricula of health professionals.
We urge Member States to meet carbon neutrality by 2030 and support addressing health
consequences of climate change, encompassing the burden of disease and climate-sensitive illnesses.
Additionally, greater regulation of industries contributing to climate change is crucial and will also
produce health co-benefits.
Finally, it is essential to clearly state that fossil fuels are the main source of greenhouse gas emissions
in order to give the resolution the scope it deserves.
