Item 7 Political declaration of the third high- level
meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention
and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs)
(a) Draft implementation road map 2023–2030 for the global action
plan for the prevention and control of NCDs 2013–2030
Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,
I speak on behalf of WMA which is part of the World Health Professions Alliance
(WHPA), a coalition representing over 41 million dentists, pharmacists, nurses,
physicians, and physiotherapists.
Health professionals see first-hand the impact of NCDs on populations and the adverse
results of inaction. We are the driving force to advance NCD targets, educate people on
risk factors, perform risk assessments and screening, and support the integration of
services for their optimal management.
We support the NCD implementation roadmap which aligns tools to PHC and UHC
frameworks to shift health systems from models suited for acute illness to integrated
primary care systems, supported by national guidelines, providing access to NCD
diagnostics and essential medicines, as well as investment in the health workforce.
WHPA urges Member States and WHO to work closely with health professionals in
implementing the roadmap.
