WMA welcomes Swiss court decision

The World Medical Association has welcomed the decision by a Swiss court to temporarily suspend the IAAF’s testosterone regulations.

Dr. Leonid Eidelman, President of the WMA, said: ‘We are delighted that the Swiss court has listened to the objections to the IAAF rules, which would have forced Caster Semenya to take testosterone-reducing medication to compete in her athletic events.

‘It now means that the IAAF can give further consideration to this issue.

‘The WMA continues to have strong reservations about the ethical validity of these regulations and our advice to physicians remains that they should take no part in implementing them’.
