WMA Supports World Health Organisation’s Warnings On Tuberculosis

The World Medical Association, which represents more than eight million doctors worldwide, today supported the WHO’s warnings about the spread of tuberculosis.

The WMA’s 77 national medical association members recently adopted a new statement warning that TB was becoming an increasing cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.

The WMA declared: ‘While many patients with TB are not diagnosed, others are not treated effectively. There are many contributory reasons, including poor prescribing by doctors and poor patient compliance with treatment. TB is also a major threat to the health of HIV-positive persons and an increasingly common cause of death of persons with AIDs’.

The WMA is urging all its members to support the WHO in promoting more effecrtive management of TB.
