RE: Registration fees for senior physicians
PAGES: 1
Dear Jacques,
I would like to respond to the question by the AM steering committee on a possible
waiver or reduction of registration fees for WMA events for senior physicians.
We briefly discussed this and concluded that such a reduction would—at least for
the moment—not be warranted.
The registration fees we are taking do not cover costs. We usually carry between
180.000 Euros for a Council Session and 190.000 Euros for a General Assembly
out of our general budget. Anything that comes on top must be carried by our host
organisation. Increasing the deficit by allowing lower registration fees would,
therefore, be a decision at the expense of a third party.
We have previously decided to grant a reduction for Junior Physicians. They
undoubtedly have a smaller income and, usually with young families, higher
needs. Looking at the situation of our retired physicians, we are confident that the
registration fees are manageable for this group.
This message does not hinder the Assembly of the Association Members from
adopting a resolution to the same effect addressing the General Assembly.
I very much hope for the understanding of my retired colleagues.
With kind regards
Otmar
