BRIEF CV OF DR RAVINDRA SITARAM WANKHEDKAR
\nBorn on 21st of September, 1963 to Smt. Bhagirathibai Wankhedkar ( A school teacher &
\nheadmistress) and Late Shri Sitaram Wankhedkar (A freedom fighter), Dr. Ravi
\nWankhedkar is a perfect example of a modern times ‘Polymath’- a terminology coined to
\naddress persons, whose expertise or knowledge spans varied subjects.
\nHe completed his schooling from Canossa Convent, Dhule. Later on, he completed
\nMBBS & MS (General Surgery) from the renowned BJ Medical College, Pune.
\nBefore getting admission to BJ Medical College itself, Ravi had decided that his area of
\nwork will be his hometown Dhule, as he had seen the poverty & related health problems. So,
\nafter becoming a General Surgeon, he joined the Shri Bhausaheb Hire Govt Medical College.
\nAs assistant professor in surgery, he was extremely popular amongst medical students &
\nstaff of Shri Bhausaheb Hire Medical College, Dhule, so much so that he was bestowed
\n‘Teacher of the Decade Award’ in 1999. Till date he continues his passion for teaching as Hon
\nProfessor in Surgery at the Govt Medical College.
\nSince 2003 onwards, he started taking pro active initiatives in the working of Indian
\nMedical Association.
\nMany state level and national level programs like WEZ AMSCON HOSPEX,
\nEVECON ,Unmesh, Yomedicon (Young Medico’s convention), WIMALS-Women IMA
\nLeaders Summit, SHABDANGAN- a Medicos’ Literary Festival were conceived &
\norganized under his leadership.
\nAs a result of his relentless efforts towards making IMA stronger, Ravi was chosen
\nunopposed as the Presidential Candidate for IMA for the year 2017-18.
\nApart from his Professional & Organizational activities, he finds solace in Nature. He has
\ntransformed a piece of barren land into a lush green, colourful farm ‘Ravi Shrushti’, which has
\nbecome a destination for informal meetings & gatherings.
\nBeing a lover of adventure tourism and having completed a basic Mountaineering
\nCourse at Manali, he successfully completed the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra in 2011. Shared
\nhis experiences on different platform about his experiences of the trip.
\nHe is involved in many Social activities apart from medical practice.
\nHe runs ‘Sitaram Hospital’ very successfully at Dhule, upgrading it with modern
\nequipments and technology as required, the latest being \u201cDYBSS \u201c- a centre for laser
\nanorectal surgery ! He is an exemplary surgeon with social commitment at the heart of his
\nprofessional practise. He has handled a number of complicated general surgical cases with
\nease and saved so many lives.
\nHe is the Founder Co-ordinator of Mission Pink Health- an ongoing community health
\nproject for Adolescent Tribal Girls, in which more than 250000 girls have benifited uptil now.
\nHe has started ‘SHET SHIVAR DAVAKHANA [A free clinic for farmers]’ at his farm for
\npoor farm workers & labourers.
\nHe has conducted numerous medical camps in remote tribal areas of Satupda.
\nHe is associated with many social, medical, sports, literary organizations.
\nHe had been instrumental in IMA Dhule’s proactive participation in providing Physical
\nand monetary Relief aid for Gujarat & Nepal Earthquake, Kashmir Floods, Martyrs Families.
\nIt was his idea to start ‘UbhariAbhiyan-a helping hand from IMA Dhule’ to the Drought &
\nHailstorm affected farmers.
