World Medical Association Elects First President From Eastern
Europe
Professor Jaroslav Blahos, president of the Czech Medical Association,
has been elected to become president of the World Medical Association
for the year 1999/2000.
Prof. Blahos, who is Professor of Medicine at Charles University
in Prague, will be the first WMA president from eastern Europe.
He will take over from the current American president, Dr Daniel
Johnson, at the WMA's 51st annual General Assembly meeting in
Tel Aviv, Israel in October 1999.
Prof. Blahos was elected at the WMA's 50th annual General Assembly
in Ottawa, Canada, last weekend.
