Adopted by the WMA General Assembly, Washington
2002
Initiated: March 2001 17.290
- It is essential to balance the benefits and risks for humanity
inherent in the development and application of advanced medical
technology. Maintaining this balance is entrusted to the judgement
of the physician.
Therefore:
- The use of medical technology should be restricted to the
purpose of protecting humanity and the health of the patient,
and patient safety should be fully considered by the physician
in the development and application of medical technology.
- In order to foster physicians able to provide appropriate
medical care in this kind of environment, efforts must be made
to ensure the provision of comprehensive medical education as
a way to deepen the understanding that at the heart of medicine
is a love for all humanity.
