The Norwegian Medical Association
|
On November 13 we had the pleasure to welcome 18 members of the
Norwegian Medical Association, who came for a 3-day visit to Geneva.
Among the delegation were the NMA's President Dr. Hans Kristian
Bakke, Vice-President Dr.Yngve Mikkelsen and NMA's Secretary General,
Dr. Magne Mylena.
A presentation was given by the WMA Secretariat to explain the
Policy Procedure to issue the Handbook of Declarations which is
the record of WMA's stance on a variety of questions related to
medical ethics, medical education, socio-medical affairs and medical
topics generally.
During their visit to Geneva the Norwegian delegation had the
opportunity to meet with Dr.Gro Harlem Brundtland, WHO's Director-General.
For a period of three months Mr. Bjorn Hoftvedt, from the Norwegian
Medical Association, worked at the WMA office on human rights
issues. This was thanks to a fellowship grant offered by the Norwegian
Medical Association. Mr. Hoftvedt worked on the development of
an online educational programme for prison physicians. This programme
will be available for physicians all over the world, and the WMA
will be its main distributor. (See Human Rights link - prison
