Greetings
from the President of the Korean Medical Association
Dear colleagues,
It is a great pleasure to introduce, to medical professionals
throughout the world, the Republic of Korea and the Korean Medical
Association through this website. The month of November is an
especially meaningful time for us, as the KMA was established
on November 15, 1908, and thus enters upon its 95th anniversary
this year. With continuing confidence and enthusiasm, we look
forward, in five years' time, to celebrating the first century
of the KMA's foundation.
At the time of its establishment, the KMA had a membership of
only 66, but now it has grown to a suzerain body of 80,000 members
within the Korean medical community. I believe that the concern
and warm affection that we have received from so many friends
and well-wishers abroad have been a substantial support to the
development of medicine in Korea and to the growth and success
of the KMA itself.
I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere
appreciation to you all.
In 1948, the KMA joined the WMA and in 1984, Dr. Tai Joon Moon,
Honorary President of the KMA, was elected to the presidency of
the WMA. Thus the KMA has been working with the WMA for the medical
profession, and the development of healthcare, around the world.
The KMA has been also actively working with the CMAAO(Confederation
of Medical Associations in Asia and Oceania) to promote the cooperation
of physicians in Asia and Oceania, and to further mutual development
through academic exchange.
The KMA will make every effort in working for harmony among the
NMAs, and promises to cooperate actively with the WMA for the
better health of the whole world.
Thank you.
With best wishes,
Jae Jung Kim, M.D.
President
Korean Medical Association
